2012: 25 years Botanikschule and 5 years BNE-Zentrum at Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Mueseum in Berlin-Dahlem
17. Oct. 2012
At a ceremony with the Secretary of State for Education Mark Rackles the anniversaries of the Botanikschule (Botanical School) and of the BNE-Zentrum (ESD-Centre) as well as 17 Berlin schools with the seal of approval “Berlin climate school 2012” were celebrated.
For 25 years, the Educational Advisory Centre in the Botanical Garden and the Botanical Museum in Berlin-Dahlem, called Botanikschule, has been offering materials, pedagogical advice and training on botany, environmental education and sustainable development.
The offer is used annually by many thousands of teachers, pupils and students to learn at the the Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum and to implement topics of the curriculum.
The pupils come to contact with the diverse plant world and recognize the connections between plants, the environment and our everyday life.
The Botanikschule has been run since 1987 by the Senate Administration for Education, Youth and Science Berlin in cooperation with the Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem.
For five years now, the Centre for Sustainable Development (ESD) has been providing advice and training to regional teachers on how to implement topics or methods of education for sustainable development in school education.
This includes, for example, interdisciplinary topics such as climate protection or methods such as self-organized learning. The ESD-Centre is operating in cooperation with the Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem and the Botanical School.
The seal of approval “Berlin Climate School” is an award from the Senate Administration for Education, Youth and Science Berlin for Berlin schools, which set up their own climate protection plan and implemented climate protection at the school location in a targeted pedagogical manner.
